Meteor Shower Friday

We are entering the Lyrids as a planet! The first major meteor shower of the year will peak on Friday and will last until dawn Saturday. The Lyrid meteors can be seen anytime after midnight, this is when the constellation of Lyra will be well above the horizon. It will be most noticeable from 2am til dawn. During this time the sky will point directly into the meteoroid debris stream. You will also be able to see about 18 shooting stars an hour. You will be able to see this with the naked eye. To see it with the best view look toward the east and observe from a dark location. The higher Lyra and its bright star Vega climb into the sky, the more meteors you are likely to see. Meteors can appear in any part of the sky, although their trails will tend to point back toward the radiant near the constellation of Lyra.
